Housing Assignments
Welcome Home! We are very excited that you have decided to join the Cardinal family and to live on campus at North Central College. Living in the residence halls will, without a doubt, enhance your college experience. You will make life-long friends, enjoy opportunities to learn outside of the classroom, and gain the life skills and responsibility needed to eventually live on your own.
As has been true in recent years, we expect that our first-year residence halls will be nearly 100% full. With almost 1,500 residential students living on campus, this fall will definitely be an exciting time at North Central College.
All international student housing assignments will be emailed to you as a PDF document in July. This form will explain your personalized housing details including: roommate contact information, room assignment, mailing address and campus mailbox number. We have also tried to answer many of the questions that you might have about preparing to move to campus. If you require assistance as you get ready for move-in, please do not hesitate to let us know. The office of International Programs, along with residence life staff, looks forward to aiding you with your transition to campus life!
Move-in for all new international students will be on Thursday, September 1st (airport pick-up day), from 8:00 AM-5 PM. The Office of International programs, along with your new roommate, will be there to help you. Following move-in will be a week long new international student orientation. This event will be intertwined with the Welcome Week orientation activities for all new NCC students!

Contacting your assigned roommate
Now that you have your assigned roommate’s name(s) and contact information, we recommend that you reach out to him/her. You may want to remind your roommate that as an international student you will not be able to bring big items such as a television, micro-fridge, etc. In addition to using the information we have provided as a way of getting in touch with your roommate, you may also check to see if he/she is on Facebook.
Interpreting your Housing Assignment

Eating on campus
As a resident student you will automatically be assigned the 130-meal plan*. Each term you will have the option of changing your meal plan to best suit your eating needs. Meal plans can only be altered at the check-in desk at Kaufman Dining Hall during the first week of each term. All meal plans cost the same amount, but vary in terms of where you plan to eat most of your meals.
MEAL PLAN OPTIONS Student meal plan options are as follows:
· All Meal Plan: 190 Kaufman meals per term, $51 Bonus Bucks for the term
· 130 Meal Plan: 130 Kaufman meals per term, $98 Bonus Bucks for the term
· 70 Meal Plan: 70 Kaufman meals per term, $185 Bonus Bucks for the term
WHAT ARE “MEALS?” Meals, also called swipes or credits, can be used at Kaufman Dining Hall. Your meals are added to your student ID at the beginning of each term. Throughout the term, when you use a meal swipe, it is subtracted from your meal plan. Kaufman Dining Hall is the College’s all-you-can-eat facility. Meals, or swipes, can also be used at the Cage, the college’s grab-and-go dinning option, which has an array of choices to satisfy anyone's cravings!
Use swipes to pay at the Cage 6 days a week:
Cage Hours:
Monday-Thursday 7:30 a.m. - 12:00 a.m.
Friday 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Saturday 4:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.
Meal Swipe Times for the Cage: Monday-Thursday 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Friday: ALL DAY
Saturday 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
HOW DO BONUS BUCKS WORK?
Bonus Bucks are part of the North Central College meal plan and work like a pre-paid credit card. When you purchase food or drink using your Bonus Bucks, the register will deduct the amount from the balance on your card. Bonus Bucks do roll over from term to term; however, they do not roll over from one academic year to the next. Bonus Bucks can be used at the Cage and the Rolland Center Boiler House Café to pay for food. Each of these venues accepts cash, as well.
WHAT ARE FLEX DOLLARS? Flex Dollars also act like a pre-paid credit card; however, Flex Dollars are not a part of the North Central College meal plan. Flex Dollars can be used to purchase a wide variety of items including food, books, North Central apparel, school supplies, and items from some vending machines located on campus. You can add flex dollars for your spending needs by going to the Business Office (on the third floor of Old Main) and purchasing them in increments of $25.00 (cash or check) or by going to www.managemyid.com (credit or debit). Students who do not have meal plans can add flex dollars in the same manner. Flex Dollars roll over from one academic year to the next. We will review this during the first week orientation.
DINING HALL SERVICES AND POLICIES If you are ill or otherwise unable to make it to the dining hall for meals, you are encouraged to use the sack lunch or sick tray services available through Kaufman Dining Hall. These can be arranged through the director of dining services, and can be made available for pick up. Aside from these services, due to governmental regulations, the removal of food, beverages, glassware, utensils, or china is not permitted without the explicit permission of the director of dining services.
*Meal plans are required for North Central resident students, except those living at the Naper Place Apartments. Residents of Naper Place are not automatically assigned a meal plan due to of the independent nature of the community and in-unit access to a full kitchen. Naper Place residents wishing to sign up for a meal plan may do so at the Business Office, located in the third floor of Old Main.
